Secondary Market Notes

The Aquilion ONE platform has the largest installed base of any wide-area volumetric CT globally. All four versions trade on the secondary market — but generation matters significantly for parts availability, software support, and clinical capability. The Vision is the current sweet spot: modern enough to be clinically relevant, available enough to be affordable.

Original ONE units (pre-2012) are increasingly difficult to support — tube and detector supply is thin. GENESIS units are just beginning to enter the secondary market at prices that reflect their age.

What to verify before buying — any version

  • Identify the exact version — ONE, Premium, Vision, or GENESIS — before evaluating anything else
  • Tube model and exposure count — CXB-750F preferred; CXB-750D on older units has tighter supply
  • Detector integrity — inspect QA scan for dark rows, artifacts, or dead detector elements
  • Software version — V7.0+ required for Vision/GENESIS features; earlier versions may lack key protocols
  • Cardiac and spectral licenses — confirm what's licensed vs installed
  • Slip ring condition — high wear item, especially on high-volume academic sites
  • Cooling system history — chiller and heat exchanger are common failure points on older units

Secondary Market Notes

The Aquilion PRIME is the most actively traded Canon/Toshiba CT on the secondary market across all three versions. Large installed base, strong parts availability, and a platform ISOs know extremely well make this the lowest-risk used Aquilion for most buyers.

The PRIME S is the current secondary market sweet spot — faster rotation than Gen 1, strong parts supply, and well-understood by service organizations. The SP commands a premium for its spectral capability but verify licenses carefully before purchase.

What to verify before buying — any PRIME version

  • Identify the exact version — PRIME, PRIME S, or PRIME SP — Gen 1 vs S have different rotation speeds and cardiac packages
  • Tube model and counts — CXB-750G is current preferred; verify exposure count carefully
  • AIDR 3D license — confirm it's licensed, not just installed on the system
  • Cardiac package — verify license and which cardiac protocols are included
  • SP only: SureSubtraction and AiCE licenses — both are separately licensed, don't assume they transfer
  • Software version — V6.0+ preferred for Gen 1/S; V7.0 required for full SP spectral functionality
  • Patient table — extended couch with lateral preferred; verify weight capacity
Strong Market

Aquilion CX

128-slice · Mid-range workhorse

Cardiac capableOptional

Clinical Applications

General Diagnostic Vascular / CTA Oncology Neuro Emergency

Secondary Market Notes

The Aquilion CX occupies a sweet spot on the secondary market — 128-slice capability at a fraction of PRIME pricing. Widely used in community hospitals and regional imaging centers. Parts availability is solid and ISOs know this platform well.

What to verify before buying

  • AIDR 3D — earlier CX units may not have it; verify before assuming
  • Tube type and counts — CXB-750D is common; verify exposure count carefully
  • Detector integrity — run a QA scan and inspect for artifacts
  • Software version — V5.0+ preferred for current protocol support
  • Cardiac option — not standard; verify license if needed

Slice thickness0.5mm
Rotation speed0.4–0.5 sec
Generator output60–72 kW
Gantry aperture72 cm
Cardiac capableOptional

Clinical Applications

General Diagnostic Routine CT Vascular Emergency

Secondary Market Notes

One of the most traded used CT platforms globally. The Aquilion 64 has a massive installed base and strong international demand — particularly Latin America, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia. Price point is compelling for cost-constrained facilities.

What to verify before buying

  • Tube age and counts — older platform, tube availability is tighter
  • DAS board condition — common failure point on aging units
  • Detector integrity — artifacts from degraded detectors are common
  • Generator condition — Spellman vs OEM generators have different service profiles
  • Software version — confirm compatibility with your PACS/RIS
International Market

Aquilion RXL / 16

16-slice / 32-slice · Entry-level international

Market Position

Production years2003–2012
Market tierInternational / Rural
Secondary demandStrong internationally
Typical vintage2006–2012

Specifications

Detector rows16 (upgradeable to 32)
Slice thickness0.5mm
Rotation speed0.5–0.75 sec
Generator output60 kW
Gantry aperture72 cm
Cardiac capableLimited

Clinical Applications

General Diagnostic Routine CT Emergency Rural / Low-volume

Secondary Market Notes

The RXL and 16-slice Aquilion platform remains in high demand for international buyers — particularly Latin America, where cost and serviceability outweigh slice count for many facilities. Not recommended for high-volume North American sites, but well-suited for emerging market deployments.

What to verify before buying

  • Tube model — CXB-750D/4A is common; verify exposure count and DOM
  • 16 vs 32-slice configuration — confirm upgrade status
  • Export compliance — verify equipment meets destination country import requirements
  • Parts availability in destination market — plan service support before purchase
  • Generator type — Spellman vs OEM affects local serviceability

Secondary Market Notes

Canon Medical's current mid-tier platform. Trade-ins and early de-installs are beginning to enter the secondary market as facilities upgrade. AiCE AI reconstruction is a genuine differentiator — produces diagnostic-quality images at significantly reduced dose compared to older platforms.

What to verify before buying

  • AiCE license — confirm it transfers with the system
  • Software version — current platform, verify update pathway with Canon
  • Service contract status — newer systems often still under OEM contract
  • Tube counts — newer platform, most units will have low usage
  • Lightning vs Exceed — significant capability difference, confirm configuration

Beyond CT

Other Canon / Toshiba Modalities

While CT is the core of our Canon and Toshiba expertise, Canon Medical produces equipment across the full diagnostic imaging spectrum.

X-Ray

Canon DR / Radiography

Canon produces a range of digital radiography systems including the CXDI detector series and CALNEO flat panel detectors. Strong secondary market presence, particularly for detector panels and DR room components.

Ultrasound

Canon Aplio Series

The Aplio ultrasound platform covers general, cardiac, and vascular applications. Aplio i-series and Aplio 500/400 are the most commonly traded systems on the secondary market. Transducer availability is generally good.

MRI

Canon Vantage Series

Canon's MRI lineup includes the Vantage Titan (1.5T and 3T) and Elan platforms. Lower secondary market volume than CT, but growing. Coil availability and software licensing are the primary considerations for used Vantage systems.

Note on non-CT Canon modalities: Our deepest expertise is in the Aquilion CT platform. For Canon X-ray, ultrasound, and MRI inquiries, we can source equipment and parts but recommend verifying local service support availability before purchasing.
